Project objectives:
The overall objective: Improving social inclusion and quality of life of children and youth with disabilities (CYWD) in Montenegro and Serbia through the development cooperation in the cross border regions and the use and sharing of human resources and IT achievements
The specific objectives of the project: Providing a higher level of access to quality education and skills necessary for everyday life CYWD in the cross border regions of Montenegro and Serbia, using assistive technology through the establishment of cross-border cooperation, the development of technical and human resources and peer support
Activities and results of the project
The inclusive education and implementation of assistive technology methods as a novelty in the education system for children and youth with disabilities became increasingly important in the cross-border area. Following this, the project provided a higher level of access to quality education and acquisition of skills necessary for daily living for children and youth with disabilities in Montenegro and Serbia (Pljevlja, Berane, Čajetina and Užice).
Within the project two Centres for Assistive technology were established and equipped with 242 peaces of equipment and six specialized softwares: six “tailor made” specialized softwarse for education in the following fields: mathematics, computational literacy, linguistic exercises, lifestyle skills, drawing and being operational during the course of the project with provided assistance to 62 children and youth with disabilities; four Volunteers Centres were established and being operational during the course of the project that enabled additional degree of socialization of young and disabled children through the joint realization of activities with 82 trained volunteers (peers) through scope of different joint activities realized; 374 people were trained and educated (teachers, specialists, CYWD, parents and employees of partner’s institutions) in the field of the assistive technology. Camp for children and youth with disabilities was opportunity for seventy children and young people with disabilities from the cross-border region (Pljevlja, Berane, Užice, Čajetina) to establish new acquaintances through active socializing and cooperation. Through organized workshops (art, acting, sport, use of ITC and assistive technology) they had opportunity to acquire new skills and be further strengthened to be equal members of their communities and society in general.
In addition three studies on assistive technology in the project area were prepared: Empirical study in Montenegro, Study for drafting policy changes in legislation and practice in the application of assistive technologies and Comprehensive study on innovations in assistive technology in Serbia as well as one training programme in assistive technology was accredited.
Three day Regional Conference for Use of Assistive Technology in Education and Social and Child Protection was organized for 50 participants from Montenegro, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, representatives of 32 institutions. The conference emphasized the need to make additional efforts in the development of social services that should support families and children and their inclusion in the education system and community life.
Four Round Tables with 106 participants were organised to increase level of awareness of the targeted audience of need of cross-border region in terms of social inclusion of the CYWD and overall project goals and achievements in order to provide a higher level of access to quality education and skills necessary for everyday life CYWD using assistive technology through the establishment of cross-border cooperation, the development of technical and human resources and peer support. Round tables were organized with joint message ASSISTIVE TECHOLOGY – LIFE WITHOUT BOUNDARIES.
