The Ambassador of the European Union to Montenegro, His Excellency Johan Satler, paid a visit to the municipalities of Rožaje and Bijelo Polje on March 4th and 5th, 2025. During his visit, Ambassador Satler met with the Mayors of the municipalities, Mr. Rahman Husović and Mr. Petar Smolović, where they discussed current socio-economic challenges, development projects, and opportunities for further European Union support.
In Rožaje, the Ambassador visited the Secondary Vocational School, which received new carpentry equipment through the “Craftsman” project. This project is part of a broader initiative to support artisans and entrepreneurship in the municipalities of Rožaje and Sjenica.
In Bijelo Polje, representatives of European Union to Montenegro toured the “Tisa” Day Care Center, which implemented the “Joint Action for Better Care” project, aimed at improving social services for children and youth with disabilities.
This projects were financed through the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Serbia-Montenegro 2014-2020, and Ambassador Satler emphasized the importance of cross-border cooperation for the further development of these municipalities. He also commended the engagement of local authorities in implementing projects that directly improve the quality of life for citizens. The Mayors expressed their gratitude for the European Union’s support and their desire to continue cooperation for the purpose of sustainable development.
Ambassador Satler also discussed future initiatives and the potential for further economic growth in Rožaje and Bijelo Polje. His visit served as an opportunity to strengthen ties between the EU and Montenegro, as well as to work together on overcoming the challenges faced by these municipalities.
