Target groups:
  • 85,000 inhabitants of Kraljevo and Pljevlja;
  • at least 15 representatives of decision makers,
  • PUC and local communities from 8 local government SRB and MNE;
  • representatives of at least 2 local associations dealing with the environment;
  • 75,000 inhabitants of rural areas of Kraljevo and Plevlja
Commencement date and project duration: 24/12/2022, 22 months
Overall objective: Contribution to the improvement of the Wastewater Management System in the cross-border area of Serbia and Montenegro.
Specific objective(s): Improved capacities of public utility companies and local administrations in order to achieve a more efficient wastewater management system in the transboundary area
Estimated results: R1. Purchased modern equipment in order to strengthen the technical capacity of utility companies in Kraljevo and Pljevlja for more efficient wastewater management.

R2. Strengthened professional capacities of the public and civil sector in the cross-border area for the application of wastewater management standards and the application of innovative decentralized models of wastewater treatment.

R3. General public informed about the consequences of inadequate wastewater management system on health and environment.

Main activities

(in relation to the estimated results of the action):

1. Activities on strengthening the technical capacities of utility companies in Kraljevo and Pljevlja for more efficient management of wastewater collection systems

1.1. Procurement of a specialized canal jet vehicles equipped with high pressure pumps and vacuum pumps for “Vodovod” Kraljevo

1.2. Procurement of a specialized canal jet vehicles equipped with high pressure pumps and vacuum pumps for “Vodovod” Pljevlja

2. Activities on strengthening the professional capacities of the public and civil sector in the cross-border area on wastewater management standards

2.1. Joint workshop for representatives of utility companies and local self-government in KV and PV on the topic “Implementation of standards in the field of wastewater management”

2.2. Joint workshop on the exchange of experience in the preparation and implementation of projects for the construction of the Wastewater Treatment System and solving the problem of waste sludge

2.3 Preparation of a study on the possibilities of applying decentralized wastewater management models in rural areas of the cross-border region

2.4Organization of a regional conference on the improvement of the Wastewater Management System

2.5 Organization of a study visit to Slovenia in order to get acquainted with innovative models of wastewater treatment in rural areas

3. Activities to inform the general public about the consequences of an inadequate Wastewater Management System on health and the environment

3.1. Media monitoring of project results

3.2. Development and implementation of an educational campaign on wastewater management and water protection.

Achieved results:
  • Procured 2 specialized Canal Jet vehicles with accompanying equipment for PUC “Vodovod” Kraljevo and “Vodovod” Pljevlja.
  • Improved the capacities of public utility companies for wastewater management and sewer network maintenance.
  • Organised 2 educational workshops for representatives of the public and civil sectors in Pljevlja and Kraljevo.
  • Reached more than 80 participants through capacity-building activities and professional trainings.
  • Prepared the Study on the Possibilities of Applying Decentralized Wastewater Management Models in Rural Areas of the Cross-Border Region.
  • Initiated activities for the establishment of a regular sewer network maintenance program in Kraljevo and Pljevlja.
  • Organised a regional conference on the improvement of the wastewater management system in Kraljevo.
  • Gathered 49 representatives of utility companies, local governments, decision-makers and civil society organisations at the regional conference.
  • Organised a study visit to Maribor for representatives of PUC “Vodovod” Kraljevo and “Vodovod” Pljevlja.
  • Facilitated exchange of experience and best practices in wastewater management.
  • Published 17 media articles covering project activities and results.
  • Produced and distributed 400 educational brochures for local governments and stakeholders in the cross-border region.
  • Produced and distributed promotional materials, including pens, notebooks, bags and USB devices.
