The Municipality of Nikšić, in cooperation with the Sandžak Regional Tourism Organization, has successfully completed the project “Green Eyes Cross-Border Route”, aimed at improving the tourism offer and strengthening cross-border cooperation between Montenegro and Serbia.
At the project’s final conference, the achieved results were presented, along with the challenges faced during the 27-month implementation period. On this occasion, Marko Perućica, Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Municipality of Nikšić, emphasized that the project made a significant contribution to strengthening tourism stakeholders and developing the tourism offer within the programme area.
During the implementation, a new cross-border tourist route was created, connecting eight cities:
Nikšić – Šavnik – Žabljak – Pljevlja – Prijepolje – Nova Varoš – Sjenica – Novi Pazar, thereby further enhancing the tourism attractiveness of the region.
The project partner was the Sandžak Regional Tourism Organization from Novi Pazar, while the Nikšić Tourism Organization participated as an associate partner, with the shared goal of strengthening tourism potentials and capacities of tourism service providers.
The project was implemented within the IPA II Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Serbia – Montenegro 2014–2020, with a total value of EUR 179,241, of which 77% was financed by the European Union, and 23% by the project partners.
“This project is an example of how cross-border cooperation can contribute to tourism development, the preservation of natural and cultural resources, and the promotion of local communities. Through this project, new opportunities for sustainable tourism were created, as well as stronger connections between our cities and regions. The Municipality of Nikšić is currently implementing several EU-funded projects with a total value of approximately EUR 900,000, which demonstrates our commitment to improving local infrastructure, tourism, and community development. These projects bring tangible benefits to citizens and confirm that Nikšić actively participates in European initiatives,” Perućica stated.
