Target groups:
  • Public Utility Companies (PUCs) representatives from Gusinje and Ivanjica (~50);
  • Local authorities from Gusinje and Ivanjica (~30);
  • Pupils and teachers from Primary Schools in Gusinje (1) and Ivanjica (3) (~1500);
  • Civil society organisations active in the field of environment protection (10);

Overall objective: To contribute to the protection of environment in the border region by making more efficient and modernizing the infrastructure of waste management.
Specific objective(s): SO1: to enhance the capacities and effectiveness of public services and practices in relation to waste management in Gusinje and Ivanjica;

SO2: to promote environmental awareness among youth through joint actions related to waste collection in local communities of Gusinje and Ivanjica;

Estimated results: R1. Increased capacities of PUCs for waste management (related to SO1);

R2. Improved knowledge of youth on the importance of environmental protection

and waste management (related to SO2);

R3. The importance of environmental protection and waste management adequately promoted in public (related to SO2);

Main activities

(in relation to the estimated results of the action):

WP1. Improving technical capacities for waste management in Gusinje and Ivanjica (related to R1)

A.1.1 Purchase and set-up of containers in determined locations;

A.1.2 Purchase of vehicles for collection of waste in both municipalities;

A.1.3 Study visits with workshops for employees of PUCs and municipal

representatives of Gusinje and Ivanjica;

A.1.4 Development of new PUCs internal procedures for waste collection and new initiative for establishing regional landfill in Montenegro;

WP2. Raising awareness of youth for the importance environmental

protection and adequate waste disposal (related to R2)

A.2.1 Organizing educational workshops & related activities for pupils and teachers in Primary Schools in Gusinje and Ivanjica;

A.2.2 Organizing eco-quiz for pupils in Primary Schools in Gusinje and Ivanjica;

A.2.3 Organizing joint Eco Camps;

A.2.4 Painting 2 murals in schools (marking World Environmental Day);

WP3. Improving local infrastructure (related to R3)

A.3.1 Purchase and installation of wooden bins in NP Prokletije (Gusinje) and Nature Park Golija (Ivanjica);

A.3.2 Purchase and installation of educational informative boards in tourists and central locations in both municipalities

WP4. Promotion of the project and visibility actions (related to R3)

A.4.1 Organizing opening and closing conference

Achieved results:
 
  • Improved capacities of 10 organisations and institutions in the field of waste management and environmental protection.
  • Strengthened capacities of 2 public utility companies from Gusinje and Ivanjica through the improvement of vehicle fleets and waste management equipment.
  • Enhanced capacities of 2 local self-governments for more efficient waste management and implementation of sustainable practices.
  • Included 4 primary schools (3 from Ivanjica and 1 from Gusinje) in project activities.
  • Organised educational and creative activities for pupils and teachers on recycling, proper waste disposal and environmental protection.
  • Two local NGOs implemented educational workshops and eco camps in the field of environmental protection.
  • Increased the number of citizens and legal entities covered by organised waste collection services.
  • Improved waste management services for an additional 3,466 citizens and 177 legal entities in Ivanjica and Gusinje.
  • Improved waste collection at 17 locations (10 skip containers in Gusinje and  7 underground waste containers in Ivanjica).
  • Organised study visits in Ivanjica and Gusinje for representatives of public utility companies and local self-governments.
  • A total of 21 representatives from Serbia and Montenegro participated in the study visits.
  • Developed 2 new internal procedures for improving the efficiency of waste management systems.
  • Installed wooden waste bins in Gusinje.
  • Established new internal procedures to improve the efficiency of waste management systems in both public utility companies.
  • Supported the initiative for establishing a regional landfill through the contribution of the Municipality of Gusinje to the Spatial Plan of Montenegro.
