The press conference and presentation of the project “Clean community for sustainability in Environment And Nature – CLEAN” took place on 20th February, 2023 in the premises of the Municipality of Gusinje, Montenegro. The project is co-financed by the European Union through the IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Serbia – Montenegro 2014-2020, i.e. the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Serbia, Department for Contracting and Financing of EU Funded Programmes (CFCU).
The project will be jointly implemented by the Municipality of Gusinje and the Municipality of Ivanjica with the aim of contributing to environmental protection in the cross-border region through a more efficient and modern waste management infrastructure. The project will contribute to improving the capacity and effectiveness of public services in this area, and the focus will be on the promotion of environmental awareness among young people through joint actions related to waste collection in these municipalities.
The Mayor of the Municipality of Gusinje, Anela Čekić, the Mayor of the municipality of Ivanjica, Momčilo Mitrović, and the project coordinator, Marija Milenković, gave speeches at the conference.
The Mayor of the municipality of Gusinje thanked for the financial support of the European Union and pointed out that she is looking forward to cooperate with the municipality of Ivanjica on the improvement of technical capacities in this area and the provision of more efficient public services to citizens.
The Mayor of the municipality of Ivanjica thanked for the trust shown to the municipality of Gusinje and pointed out that he hopes that the project will achieve the envisaged results, improve the infrastructure of waste management in these municipalities and contribute to better preservation and protection of the environment.
The expected results of the project relate to increasing the capacity of public utility companies for waste management. Specialized vehicles for waste collection and containers will be procured in both municipalities, as well as organization of study visits and workshops of PUC representatives, where knowledge and experience in this area will be exchanged.
Also, one of the results of the project relates to the improvement of young people’s knowledge about the importance of environmental protection and waste management, so the project will organize educational workshops for students and teachers in primary schools in Gusinje and Ivanjica, Eco Camp and other accompanying activities of an educational nature. The project will focus on the improvement of local infrastructure in the field of waste management, and special attention will be devoted to the promotion of the importance of environmental protection and waste management in the public through the implementation of media campaign and other activities in the public.
The implementation of the project began on December 24, 2022 and will last for two years, until December 23, 2024. The total value of the project is 389,635 euros, of which the contribution of the European Union is 330,800 euros.
