From 6 to 8 April 2026, a three-day training for tourist guides was held in the area of Zlatar Mountain and the Uvac Special Nature Reserve within the project For.REST – “Forest Tourism in the Cross-Border Area between Serbia and Montenegro”, implemented through the IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Serbia–Montenegro 2014–2020.
The training gathered tourist guides, representatives of environmental organisations, tourism service providers, and representatives of institutions from Serbia and Montenegro, with the aim of improving knowledge in the fields of biodiversity, sustainable tourism, and forest therapy.
On the second day of the training, 7 April, the focus was placed on plant species characteristic of the Zlatar and Uvac area. The programme included both a theoretical lecture and practical fieldwork, during which participants had the opportunity to learn about the most important plant species and habitats of the region, as well as ways to interpret them within the tourism offer.
Through field activities, participants further developed skills related to the interpretation of natural heritage and became familiar with the principles of sustainable tourism and nature conservation.
On the final day of the training, 8 April, the implemented activities were reviewed and the acquired knowledge was evaluated through an interactive quiz for participants. During the closing session, the importance of linking nature protection with sustainable tourism development was highlighted, as well as the importance of continuous education for tourist guides in the field of natural heritage.
During the training, participants visited the Radoinja, Zlatar and Uvac lakes, as well as the feeding site for griffon vultures and the aviary used for temporary accommodation of injured birds.
The For.REST project is implemented by:
Municipality of Žabljak
Centre for Protection and Research of Birds of Montenegro

The project aims to support the development of sustainable forest tourism and improve the tourism offer of the cross-border area between Serbia and Montenegro through the promotion of natural heritage and strengthening the capacities of local stakeholders.
